Boeing Aircraft Extrusions ( BAC part numbers )

A large portion of the fuselage and wing sections are made from aluminum extrusions. Airbus has recently and sometimes controversially moved towards composite materials. However, many of my colleagues in procurement have difficulty sourcing BAC extrusions. If this description fits your or your company then visit the ultimate guide for BAC1520 parts

Aluminum Sheet 7075-T6

Aerospace grade aluminum sheet is fascinatingly strong and versatile material. 7075 & 2024 are often used in extreme sports and auto racing because aerospace-grade material sets the standard for strength and lightweight. You have to be very light to get off the ground, and very strong to stay up in the air.

If you need more information on aerospace material I have a link for you: 7075-T6 aluminum sheet.

Copa Picks ST Aero for Boeing, Embraer MRO

Aug 20, 2009

Copa Airlines and ST Aerospace just signed a 3 year agreement for maintenance services at $18 million. This agreement covers the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the airline's 28 Boeing 737NGs and 15 Embraer E-190s, as well as 11 E-190s from Copa-owned Aero Republica.

The new agreement renews the scope of the existing MSA, signed by the companies in August 2006, and follows the certification this April of ST Aerospace's Panama facility--Panama Aerospace Engineering (PAE)--to handle E-190 aircraft. PAE is located at the former air force base of Howard, Panama City, which is close to Copa's hub at Tocumen International Airport. To date, ST Aerospace employs and provides training to 220 people in Panama.

Copa Airlines currently offers 144 daily scheduled flights to 45 destinations in 24 countries in North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. It also provides access to more than 120 other international destinations through codeshare agreements with Continental Airlines and other airlines.

From Wikipedia
Copa Airlines, based in Panama City, is the national flag carrier airline of Panama. Its main base of operations is Tocumen International Airport, from where it operates approximately 148 daily scheduled flights to 45 destinations in 24 countries in North America, Central America, South America and The Caribbean.[1]

Boeing Delivers

Good day for Boeing. They delivered a heavy-lift plane to NATO. This took place in Long Beach, who knew Boeing still had a facility in Long Beach? SO much for having my finger on the pulse of the aerospace industry.

Anyway, story below. Thanks to Flightglobalfor this one:

Boeing has delivered the first C-17 under NATO's Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) programme, with aircraft 01 scheduled to arrive at Hungary's Papa air base ahead of a formal introduction ceremony to be held on 27 July.

Iranian Jet Crashes - Time for the Aerospace Industry to Fix their Planes

Thanks to NY TIMES for the photo

This time it's a Tupolev 154. I wonder what role US-Iranian politics plays in which aircraft the Iranians are allowed to purchase, or would desire to purchase. There's a funny cooperation even between supposed to enemies when both parties benefit. In this case, it seems it would benefit Iran to acquire some modern Boeing or Airbus planes. Something with a little more modern technology. They have a great repair station in the United Arab Emirates (ADAT), but I'm betting Iran does most of their own maintenance work, or sends it to China. Who knows?

From NY TIMES article:

BEIRUT, Lebanon — A passenger plane bound for Armenia from Iran crashed Wednesday morning 75 miles northwest of Tehran, killing all 168 people aboard, Iranian state media reported.

The plane, a Russian-made Tupolev 154, went down near the city of Qazvin at about 11:30 a.m. local time after leaving Tehran on a flight to Yerevan, the Armenian capital, said Qazvin police chief Hussein Behzadpour, in comments to Iran’s English language Press TV.

A Hole Blown in Southwest's Plane

This week a 1ft X 1ft hole was blown open in a Boeing plane operated by Southwest Airlines. It seems a rash of problems have been happening to airplanes. Methinks it's time for more maintenance, repair, and overhaul on all these aging planes. The question is whether or not the industry can afford it. Of course, the consequence is much greater than the cost, in this circumstance.

>Boston Herald's Full Story

"It appears from the initial review of ... (regulations) that none of the previous ones involving inspections for cracks covered this particular area," said FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford.

Maintenance records for the plane show it underwent a heavy review in early January, during which its frame was stripped apart and put back together. That review revealed some cracks but nothing out of the ordinary for a plane of its age, FAA officials said.
